Meanwhile, UNC plans to replace aluminum bleachers with individual blue chair back seats in Kenan before the 2018 season to improve fan experience. Railings will be added as well. The change will reduce seating capacity by about 15 percent (51,000), according to insidecarolina.com, and cost nearly $7M. A $6 facility fee was added to tickets starting last year to cover Kenan improvements.
Season tickets moved to zone pricing for the new season, meaning the better the seat the higher the price.
All seats will have backs except the student action. Seats will be 22 inches wide with armrests. Chair backs were installed as a trial last summer in sections 110 and 111and were well received, according to UNC officials.
