Four Chatham non-profit recreation groups received Recreation Advisory Committee grants totaling $20,300, about $7,300 less than what was requested.
Friends of State Parks on behalf of Friends of Lower Haw River received $7,405 to help with safety projects at parking lots for popular canoe access points off Highway 15-501 and Highway 64. Funds will be used for shade shelter and two kiosks and informational signs. Work will be done this winter and volunteers will be needed, organizers said.
Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) received $2,500 to continue restoration and improvement of trails at White Pines Nature Preserve.
Other grants went to Bonlee Recreation Park, $7,595, for ballpark improvements, and Sprott Youth Center, $2,800, for staffing open gym once a week in Moncure.
