Cheetahs Retain First In Cricket

Cheetahs (8-0-2) held first place in Triangle Cricket League (PL, 40& over) at Labor Day break, and Spartans led T20 division.

Only five rounds remain in the regular season in both leagues to determine seeds for championship post-season tournament. Six teams will qualify for the PL tournament and 12 for T20 which is scheduled to start Oct. 14.

There were no centuries reported from the batsmen in either league in August, but Pinku Doshi of the ANZACS recorded the best bowling innings of the season to date by taking 7 wickets for 7 runs vs the Vikings in a PL match.

Three PL bowlers captured 5 wickets in a match; unusually, Naveen Gali and Babar Baig of the Cary Warriors split the 10 wickets available against the Vikings, taking 5 each. Omer Ansari of the Tigers also took 5 wickets in a match against the Eagles.

Matches are now being played near Chapel Hill on Old Greensboro Road; the field is listed as “TCL1” in the playing schedule at the website (www.trianglecricketleague.org). Contacts are given there for those interested in playing, watching, or umpiring matches.
