One of the lesser known mountain bike areas in the Triangle is Green Hills, a Wake County Park not far from Falls Lake with 5 miles of multi-use trails, both paved and natural, and a 1.5m loop around the Big Hill. The hill is 190 feet high, tallest point in Wake County with top-shelf views.
The park at 9300 Deponie Dr. is in North Raleigh off Durant Road between Falls of Neuse and Capital Boulevard.
There is not a sign on Durant Road for the park. After turning onto Deponie Drive follow the road around to right through gates and past the old scalehouse. Continue past Household Hazardous Waste dropoff on the right. Entrance to the park is on the left. Continue left around the landfill hill.
Opened in 2010 as North Wake Landfill District Park, the Wake Commissioners changed the name in 2018. The park has 2 miles of natural mountain biking trails for beginners/intermediates and MTB skills area, co-maintained by the park and TORC (Triangle Off-Road Cyclists).
The park is relatively low-key with trails, playground, picnic and open play areas. Phone number is 919-0870-4330. No drones, no grills.
