Hooker Fields Get Upgrade

Hooker Fields next to Carmichael Arena at UNC are being upgraded.

Justin Ford, assistant director sports programs for UNC Campus Recreation, said, “We are installing 100 percent Recyclable Green Fields “XP Blade +” Synthetic Turf on top of a Power Base (Impact Absorption System) padding by Brock, with a 70% Crumb Rubber/30% Sand Infill.

“Along with the turf we will be installing LED Lights around the perimeter of the complex. Estimated completion date is mid-September.” Project cost was covered by student fees.

The project began June 14 and is the first in a series of field projects planned at UNC (Fetzer Field, Navy Field on campus, Finley Fields on Mason Farm Road) in connection with building an indoor football practice facility that will require major fundraising by the Rams Club. Projected completion date is Sept 2018.

A UNC news release said Hooker Fields “will be improved with safer, synthetic turf.”
