Hunters in Chapel Hill took seven deer, an increase of one over the previous year, during the 2020 Urban Archery season. They were 2 bucks, 1 button buck and 4 does, according to the WRC annual report. Some 81 N.C. municipalities participated, taking a total of 163 deer; 88.9 percent were antlerless deer. Last year the harvest was 169.
Beth Waldron petitioned the Chapel Hill Town Council in January to revise the city’s deer management program (by banning deer hunting by archery on private property, CSN Jan 2020). The petition went to the town’s recreation department which is developing a response, according to the town website.
