Orange Medalists At SONC Tourney

Orange County athletes earned medals in bocce, golf, tennis and soccer at Special Olym­pics North Carolina Fall Tournament in Char­lotte where nearly 1,200 athletes competed in six sports.

Orange soccer teams earned a gold medal (Ferocious Thunder), two silver (Power Ranger Squad, Tigers) and bronze (Mighty Sharks) in 5V5 adult divisions.

Coaches were Lee Barnes, Pat Barnes, Pat Conway for Sharks; Mike Meyen, Rachel Mey­en for Ferocious; John Waller, Joel Wil­liams for Power Ranger; Tim Mehringer, Jon­athan Wilson for Tigers.

Bocce, singles, gold, Bill Conley; doubles silver, John Mason and Janis Gazmon; silver, John Mason and Jonathan Javier Guzman, bronze, Markell Corwin and Bruce O’Don­nell, Amber Klein and Anna Zrubek, Coaches were John Reardon, Christine Stachowicz.

Tennis singles, gold, Kevin Olin; silver, Chris John Cordeiro, Michael Hager; doubles, gold, Steven Burger and Kevin Olin; tennis individual skills, bronze, Samantha Mpozam­priwe; tennis short course singles, gold, Gabriel McBride, silver, Anna Tane, bronze Gillian Fink; tennis short course doubles, silver, Gabriel McBride and Ishan Munchi, bronze Gillian Fink and Annie Tane; unified doubles, bronze, Michael Nager and partner Timothy Smithers. Coaches were Rich Green, Rollie Ollie, Eric Douglass.

Golf, Level 5 Individual Stroke Play 18, gold, David Christopher Curtin, silver Ahmad Rahman; Level 4 Individual Stroke Play 9, gold, Joey Kessler, silver, Bryan Norwood, Darrell Schwartz, bronze, Tyler Stopa; Level 2 Alternate Shot Team Play, gold, Bradley Bar­rett and unified   partner Dana McDonald.  Coaches John Kessler, Mike Despirito, Craig Stopa and others were caddies for players.
