The U.S. Men’s U23 team faces Costa Rica (3/20 8 p.m.), Dominican Republic (3/23 8 p.m.) and Mexico (3/27 12 a.m.) in the A bracket of CONCACAF qualifying for two berths in Olympic soccer. The B bracket has Honduras, Canada, El Salvador, Haiti. Bracket winners advance to the Olympics.
After round robin play (3 games), the first and second place teams in each bracket advance to the semis March 30, 1B v 2A at 7 p.m. and 1A v 2B at 10. Finals are April 1 at 10:30. Games are played at two stadiums in Guadalajara, Mexico, and will be broadcast by Fox Sports (details TBA). The U.S. hasn’t made the Olympics since 2008.
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, is scheduled to host a friendly between Mexico and Czech Republic March 26 at 8:30 p.m. as part of a three-city Mexican National Team Tour. Tickets range from $30 to $250 at Ticketmaster.
The U.S. women already qualified for the Olympics which has a 20-player roster limit, compared to 23 for Women’s World Cup. Practices might get testy.
