The UNC women’s soccer club A went 4-1 with three shutouts to win Hokie Classic at Virginia Tech (8 teams). The championship moved UNC from sixth to first in SE Collegiate Soccer Alliance rankings heading into regionals in Greenville.
In pool play, UNC blanked Virginia 3-0 (goals by Emily Fuerst, Olivia Holmes, Courtney Johnson), lost 1-0 to Georgia, blanked Duke 4-0 (Fuerst, Holmes, own goal, Grace Nipp); downed N.C. State 3-1 in semis (Nipp 2, Chandler) and blanked Georgia 2-0 for championship (Nipp, Bella Reiss).
Alexa Pibl was in the goal for all UNC games. The loss to Georgia was the first of season against a league team after seven wins and first goal allowed.
