Women’s Club Soccer Falls 2-1 At Nationals

The UNC women’s soccer club didn’t make it out of round of 16 at nationals in Phoenix.

UNC, top seed from the SE region, went 2-0 in pool play, beating Penn State and SMU by 3-1 scores, before falling 2-1 to Ohio State at NIRSA soccer national championships (24 teams).

Emily Fuerst scored for UNC on a corner kick in the first half before OSU tied it 1-1 before halftime and added a goal early in second. Last year UNC women’s club advanced to finals in Alabama before losing 1-0 to UCSB.

UCSB blanked Texas 3-0 for 2017championship.

The UNC men’s club, an at-large selection, had the same problem at nationals, go­ing 1-0-1 in pool play with 2-0 win over Colo­rado Mines A (goals by Veasey PK and Peak) and 1-1 tie with Ohio State (Veasey goal) before meeting BYU in round of 16 and losing 2-0. Last year UNC men lost in round of 16 to Texas A&M 2-1. BYU shut out Cal Poly 4-0 for men’s championship.
