Durham (Tampa Bay) and Charlotte (Chicago WSox) are the top-level Triple A baseball franchises in North Carolina. There are ten in all, plus many more if you count summer college league teams.
If you’re traveling the state this summer, check out MiLB games in these cities:
Asheville—level High A, parent club Houston;
Fayetteville Woodpeckers—High A, Houston;
Greensboro Grasshoppers—High A, Pittsburgh;
Hickory Crawdads—low A, Texas Rangers;
Kannapolis Cannonballers, Single A, Chicago WSox;
Winston-Salem Dash—South Atlantic, High A, Chicago WSox;
Wilmington Blue Rocks—South Atlantic, High A, Washington Nationals;
Wilson Warbirds—Single A, Milwaukee (formerly Carolina Mudcats);
Others: Down East Bird Dogs, Kinston, Frontier League; Gastonia Ghost Peppers, High Point Rockers, Atlantic League. These are partner leagues with MLB.
Nearest summer collegiate team is the Burlington Sock Puppets, the only N.C. member of the Appalachian League. Their season home opener is June 8. Roster normally includes UNC, Duke and ACC players.
