HM Kern Corp. of Greensboro was awarded a contract to rebuild six tennis courts at Cedar Falls Park, Chapel Hill. The winning bid was $1,342,800 (CSN, Sep 2024). The item was on the Town Council consent agenda and was approved without discussion. Construction begins in October and is expected to take nine months.
The long-awaited project has been pending for years due to rising costs and limited funding. The town cobbled together the funding package from 2003 bonds, 2015 rec bonds, two-thirds bonds June 2021 and Penny for Parks ($600,000, 2023).
It’s the latest tennis improvement project of the year. The first was resurfacing Hargraves tennis courts which was completed in the spring along drainage repairs at the Ephesus courts.
