BIRDWATCHING

Cane Creek Reservoir, home to 200 different species, birdwatching hours are Wed­nesday 7-11 a.m. through March. Admission is free. Use the entrance on the northside of NC54 west of Stanford Road. The lake is closed for fishing and boating until late March.

TAKE A HIKE DAY

Celebrate National Take-A-Hike Day with Eno River Association on a family-friendly hike in Eno River State Park, Durham, on Sun­day, Nov. 17, at 9 a.m. Meet the hike leader at the Cox Mountain Trailhead at the end of Cole Mill Road for a 1.5-mile hike along Fan­ny’s Ford Trail. If you’re feeling extra adventurous after the hike, explore the many other trails the park offers and continue the Na­tion­al Hike Day celebrations.

DUKE GARDENS

The Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke, a popular visitor destination, will undergo a $30M upgrade, adding a new welcome center, cafe and expanded green space at the entrance. To accomplish this the entrance will be closed this fall (new entrance  2000 Lewis St.). The Garden Gateway project, funded by private donations, is expected to wrap up by spring 2026.
