A petition posted by TriangleBlogBlog calls for a campus-connected basketball arena for UNC basketball with mixed use development and has received more than 1,100 signatures since Feb. 19. A number of signers are from the nearby Barclay Road/Elkin Hills neighbors who would be directly impacted by the Carolina North site.
The petition on actionnetwork.org was directed to the UNC Chancellor and Board of Trustees and focuses on a transit-oriented mixed use Campus South Hub developed in the 2019 UNC Master Plan.
“We urge university leadership to pursue their mixed-use vision for a new arena at a campus-connected location, strengthening both UNC’s educational mission and its vital relationship with downtown Chapel Hill,” the petition said.
