Opening day rosters for the 25-26 NBA season had 78 former ACC players from 17 schools, and Duke accounted for nearly a third (24). The NBA had 135 international players.
North Carolina and Virginia had 9, Florida State 6, Stanford and Wake Forest 5, Miami 4.
Others were Louisville and Pitt 3, Clemson, Ga. Tech, Notre Dame 2, Boston College, Cal, SMU, Syracuse. Va. Tech 1 each, N.C. State 0.
The ACC number increased by one from last season, UNC by three with the Duke number the same. Washington had the most former ACC players (7), and three teams (NY Knicks, Minnesota, Oklahoma City) had none.
Former ACC players including several marquee names waived at the deadline were Wendell Moore Jr, Dariq Whitehead, Malcolm Brogden (retired), Cormac Ryan, Marques Bolden, Seth Curry, RJ Davis, MJ Walker, Leaky Black, Dennis Smith Jr. Many of them are likely playing in the G League this season.
Former UNC players and their NBA teams: Coby White, Chicago; Cole Anthony, Pete Nance, Milwaukee; Tony Bradley, Indiana; Harrison Barnes, Harrison Ingram, San Antonio; Cameron Johnson, Denver, Drake Powell, Day’Ron Sharpe, Brooklyn. Two-way players are Nance (Wisconsin Herd) and Ingram (Austin Spurs).
