Golf Property Will Be Upgraded

Raleigh City Council voted last month to rezone two parcels on the north side of Tryon Road in SW Raleigh to allow for an affordable housing project. The properties contain part of the Raleigh Golf Association 27-hole course–the city’s oldest public golf course–though the majority of the holes are on the south side of Tryon.

Atlanta-based developer Dominium plans to build 370 apartments for renters earning 60 percent or less of the area median income.

Meanwhile, plans are in place to renovate the RGA course on the south side of Tryon, with Raleigh’s McConnell Golf to invest $3.5M, including a new driving range.

RGA was founded in 1929. In 1998, the course was redesigned by David Postlethwaite. McConnell Golf took over operations in 2016. The club offers both public play and private memberships, including the 9-hole “Stockholder Course.”
