The Homestead skatepark in Chapel Hill re-opened in mid December after a major upgrade and redesign following 25 years of use. Durable steel-reinforced elements and poured concrete replaced the old wood-frame ramps and different skill-level zones were added. Skaters will find smoother transitions, a custom-built bowl and integrated street and transition features. The town will finish up painting and landscaping in the spring. The project begun in August, funded by $500,000 in ARPA monies, was designed and completed by Fifth Pocket Skatepark of Pennsylvania. Design work was paid for by Penny for Parks. It’s open daily 9-8 and has lights. Free. PHOTO BY SUSAN KELLY
