In a Dec. 12 update, Chapel Hill is still part of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s Urban Archery program.
“We’ve spoken with NC Wildlife and confirmed that we are enrolled in the 2025-26 program, Alex Carrasquillo of the town communications staff told CSN. “The urban archery season runs Jan. 10–Feb. 15, 2026. Our participation is noted within the 2025-26 North Carolina Inland Fishing, Hunting & Trapping Regulations Digest at ncwildlife.gov. Our website has been updated to reflect our (continued) enrollment in the program.”
Urban archery allows licensed hunters to take deer by bow and arrow on private property within the city limits with landowner’s permission during specified dates and in accordance with state hunting regulations. Last year 15 deer (14 of them female) were taken in Chapel Hill, the highest number ever. The previous year it was one deer.
