Many Reasons Golfers Love The Masters

For pro golfers there are more than $22.5M reasons to love the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga. That’s the total payout for the players this year.

The $4.5M to the winner is the most for any PGA event and equals the amount paid to the PGA Championship winner. Second place at Augusta paid $2.68M, third $1.428M, fourth $1.008M, fifth $798,000.

Former UNC golfer Ben Griffin of Chapel Hill played even for the weekend, tied for 33rd and brought home $121,500. Ryan Griffin, another former UNC golfer, was +1, T38 and earned $101,250.

The 54th place finisher earned $51,300. The 37 golfers who played Thursday-Friday, didn’t make the cut and went home, each received $25,000.
