Courage 7th in NWSL

The North Carolina Courage (4-3-3), winners of three of four in May, are in seventh place in National Women’s Soccer League with 18 points. They host Seattle Reign July 4 at 6:30 p.m. at WakeMed SP, Cary.

“Not sustainable in current stadium,” say team officials regarding their 10,000-seat home in Cary as they push for public funding for a new venue that would replace WakeMed SP. They’re averaging 8,448 fans for five home dates this season including two May sellouts.

Raleigh developer John Kane proposed a 20,000-seat open stadium at Downtown South as part of a $2B entertainment district on 140 acres near S. Saunders and I-40 interchange south of downtown Raleigh years ago, but conditions changed and stadium plans later were shelved.
