Local Celebrations For Fourth of July

Fourth of July celebrations in the Tri­angle will be different this year.

There’s no weekend Festival for the Eno in Durham, Chapel Hill has a drone show instead of fireworks and USA 250th birthday will be highlighted in a Raleigh festival, N.C. Freedom Fest on the Capitol grounds, 10-4, saluting arts, history, nature, culture.

Here are some July 4 free local activities:

Carrboro focuses on kids with activities on Weaver Street Market lawn at 9:30 a.m. and People’s Parade at 10:50 along Weaver Street to the Town Commons for children’s games, contests, food, music.

An Old-Fashioned 4th of July at Horace Williams House, Chapel Hill, 1-3 p.m. features a concert of patriotic music by Village Band. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Lem­onade, ice cream follow.

Together We Are America celebrates community, history and culture at River Park downtown Hillsborough 10-9 with crafts demo, live entertainment, music, food.

Chapel Hill has a drone show with 300 synchronized drones from Skyworx 7-9:45 p.m. at Chapel Hill High. Check for shuttle service and parking plans TBA.

One of the area’s oldest holiday traditions is the 77th Watts-Hillandale Fourth of July Parade at Oval Drive Park, off W. Club Blvd, 10 a.m. A Children’s Independence Day Parade starts at 10 at Durham Central Park downtown. Efland has a July 4 parade starting at 10 a.m.

Frederick Douglass Community Readings 10-11:30 at Stagville, Durham, and 2-4, Century Center, Carrboro.

Fireworks follow the Bulls game at DBAP. They can be viewed from nearby parking decks if you don’t have a ticket. Gates open after the sixth inning if seats are available.

Mebane offers backyard games, contests, music, food trucks, fireworks, 5:30-10 at Mebane Arts & Community Center. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.
