Chapel Hill received a $10M gift from the Bill and Peggy Britt Foundation Inc. of Chapel Hill for a recreation building at Cedar Falls and two greenway extensions. The grant will provide $5.8M for planning, design, construction of a recreation building (classes, programs, community meetings) at Cedar Falls Park and $4.2M for extension of Campus Recreation Trail connecting N.C. Botanical Garden to Barbee Chapel Rd., and extension of Pritchard Branch Trail from Cameron Ave. to Morgan Creek.
There’s no timeline for the projects as planning is just starting. Bill Britt was prominent in Amway Corp. and served as Carrboro Town Manager.
Earlier, the Britt Foundation awarded $5M grants to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, William Peace University and Samaritan’s Purse.
