Green fees at most area golf courses continue to rise, many sharply, according to the ammual CSN golf survey of three dozen courses in the region. Six courses held the line, one reduced weekend rates, seven have variable rates that aren’t published, all the others raised rates.
Rates at three Triangle university-owned courses (over $100) are so complicated with memberships, discounts they’re not included in the summary. Duke does have a Triangle resident rate that’s more competitive.
Holding the line were Hillandale, Durham, Olde Liberty. Youngsville, Quail Ridge, Sanford, Reedy Creek, Four Oaks, The Valley, Burlington (city-owned), Twin Lakes (9 holes), Chapel Hill.
Grandover, with two courses in Greensboro, raised Mon-Thu rates by $3 to $85 and reduced weekends by $2 to $90.
The number of courses with unpublished or variable rates depending on date and time increased from three last year to seven. They include Crossings, Falls Village in Durham, Chapel Ridge, The Preserve at Jordan Lake, Chapel Hill, Keith Hills, Buies Creek, River Ridge, Clayton, Wildwood Green, Raleigh.
Small increases were reported at Southwick, Graham $2/weekdays, $1 weekends, and Quaker Creek, Mebane, Umstead Pines, Durham, $2 across the board; Raleigh Golf Assoc, $1 weekdays, $2 Friday and weekends.
Largest hikes were at Lake Winds, Rougemont, from $23 to $40 weekdays, $29 to $45 weekends; Hedingham, Raleigh, upped weekdays $8, weekends $6; Bryan Park, two courses in Greensboro, hiked rates between $5 and $12.
Heritage, Wake Forest, went from $98 to $105 weekends, the fourth area course over $100.
Some courses added a new rate for Friday, higher than weekdays, lower than weekends/holidays. Riverwood, Clayton, hiked rates $8 weekdays, $6 Friday and weekends.
Many courses had small increases for weekdays and heavier hikes for weekends. The Challenge, Graham, went up $5 weekdays, Friday $1, weekends $9; Mill Creek, Mebane, $3 weekdays and Friday, $5 weekends; Stoney Creek, Greensboro, $4 weekdays and $5 weekends.

Hillandale $40/$45; Occoneechee $47/$55; Umstead Pines (Willowhaven) $50/$59; The Valley $40/$45/$50; Quaker Creek $32/$42; Twin Lakes, $21/$34 for 9, $23/$48 for 18.
