A popular Triangle bike trail is among the best in the South, according to Southern Living magazine. The American Tobacco Trail (ATT) was among the 8 best trails in the South.
The ATT has 22+ miles of rails-to-trails in the Research Triangle, running in Durham, Chatham, Wake counties from downtown Durham to Apex and Cary. The 10-foot wide trail starts near DPAC downtown, crosses I-40, a section of Jordan Lake SRA, state game lands and draws runners, bikers, hikers, roller bladers, dog walkers and equestrians. The trail is primarily paved with several gravel sections.
