Charlotte Defender Ream U.S. Captain, Berhalter On Roster

Tim Ream, 38, one of five center backs for Team USA and team captain, has a Tar Heel connection.

He’s a defender with veteran presence and captains Charlotte FC (MLS) where he joined in 2024 after time with Bolton and Fulham (PL), Red Bulls (MLS). Ream was first called up to USMNT in 2010 and has 91 caps and one goal. A native of St. Louis, he played  soccer at St. Louis University. He was named captain prior to the exhibition with Senegal in Charlotte. Ream and Pulisic are among 13 returnees from the U.S. team in 2022.

Another U.S. player with a Tar Heel connection is Sebastian Berhalter, 25, a midfielder. He played one season (2019) at UNC be­fore turning pro. He’s now with the Vancou­ver Whitecaps (MLS). His father, Gregg, a UNC alum, was manager of the 2022 WC team and now heads the Chicago Fire (MLS). He’s  part of FanDuel Network’s Coaches’ Cor­ner show with former coaches Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley (ten shows) in June.
