Chipmunks may or may not have jumped the wire in eastern NC. More likely, they crawled under it. The WRC reports a sighting of one of the little rascals in the Wilmington area, and unlike panther and Bigfoot and Lizard Man sightings, they have photographs thanks to an interested citizen.
It’s possible that the furry fellow (the chipmunk, not the citizen) is an accidental hitchhiker, but the Commission would like the public’s help to keep an eye peeled south and east of Wake County, where chipmunks have previously been presumed not to be.
