Duke Forest will close three sections, Durham, Korstian and Blackwood divisions, Sep. 23 for 17th annual deer herd reduction until Dec. 13, the Office of Duke Forest announced. Entrances will be posted.
The three sections are closed Monday through Friday and open for recreation Saturday and Sunday. The only exception is Thanksgiving holiday weekend when the forest will be open for recreation only Thursday through Sunday.
Duke brings in hunters to thin the number of white-tailed deer to protect the forest and ongoing research.
