Haw River Cleanup Slated March 21

The 36th Haw River Clean-up-a-thon, org­anized by the Haw River Assembly, takes place Saturday, March 21, and needs volunteers to help remove trash along waterways in the eight-county watershed, from Greensboro to Jordan Lake. Teams of  volunteers have until March 15 to register at events@hawriver.org to get supplies and an assigned site. Both individuals and boaters are needed for the cleanup.

Last year 346 volunteers removed 312 bags of trash and 54 tires from streams and creeks along the river.

Spring Cleanup

The Clean Jordan Lake Inc. spring cleanup will be held Saturday, March 14, 8:30-12 noon, part of Creek Week, at Jordan Lake. Sign up on the meetup.com website. Rain date is 3/15 12:30-4 p.m.

The MLK Jr. Day of Service in Durham had 376 volunteers and they removed 2,764 pounds of litter; planted 600 flower bulbs; cleared 1.7 acres of invasive plants at Forest Hills Park and pruned and mulched 78 street trees.
