$5B needed to repair state roads damaged by Helene. The N.C. Dept. of Transportation estimates that it will cost about $5B to repair state roads, bridges and other infrastructure damaged by September’s big storm. That’s about 7 times as much as NCDOT has spent on repairs from all previous storms since 2016, and the department likely will have to spread out the work over 6 to 10 years, the News & Observer reported.
