A shred-a-thon for confidential personal papers for Orange Co. residents will be held Saturday, April 12, 10-2, at Eubanks Road Park & Ride Lot in north Chapel Hill. Limit is 4 boxes per person.

The Chatham Sheriff’s Dept. Polar Plunge at Jordan Lake raised a record $79,823 for N.C. Special Olympics. Some 25 teams entered the plunge into 49 degree water at Seaforth Beach accompanied by music by a DJ. The department’s mobile kitchen provided warm biscuits and coffee for participants after they went in the water.

The ACC, Clemson and Florida State reached a settlement for legal disputes, while introducing a new revenue-distribution model that rewards schools based on TV viewership and performance for football and basketball.

Roller skating for all ages returned to Wheels at Merrick Moore Park on Hoover Road in East Durham last month. The city bought the property, refurbished everything and held a grand opening. Durham voters approved bonds for a new aquatic center with a climbing wall to be built next door.

The ACC Baseball Championship returns to DBAP in Durham May 20-25 with a new format. It’ll be single elimination for 16 teams (SMU, Syracuse don’t have teams). There will be four games a day Tue-Thu, two each Fri-Sat and the championship Sunday. Coaches voted for the change.

Indy Passes for 25/26 for new or returnees went on sale in March. They’ll cover two visits to 250+ resorts in the U.S. and abroad including two in N.C. (Hatley Pointe, Cataloochee).
