No Fishing Rodeo In Orange County

Orange County’s Fishing Rodeo for kids 3-15 will not be held this year.

Chris Sosa of the county rec dept said the event was wonderful but required lots of offsite resources and they decided to use them for other programs. They hope to partner with another organization to hold the event in the future.

Last year the rodeo featured pond fishing at Blackwood Farm Park with prizes awarded for first fish, biggest fish, etc, followed by a free hotdog lunch for kids.

Meanwhile, Orange Co. does not offer any learn to fish programs for youngsters. Carrboro holds several (March 22, April 19) at Anderson Park Pond off NC 54. Reservations are required at carrbororec.org. Fees ($5/child) are charged and a parent or guardian must attend. Supplies are furnished, but bring a fishing rod if you have one.
