The annual spring Umstead Festival put on annually by the Umstead Coalition saluting the Raleigh state park will not be held this year.
“After 30 years we have decided not to hold this event in April at the Walton Farm,” Jean Spooner of UC told CSN, “and we are looking at alternatives within the park.”
The event featured Walk, Run, Bike for Umstead with music and food, and involved lots of volunteers and help from community groups like Carolina Godiva TC, which timed a run, and Triangle Off Road Cyclists (TORC), which organized MTB bike rides of three different lengths.
Umstead has running/hiking-only trails and multi-use trails for biking, bridle and hiking. Plans to develop MTB-specific trails at Umstead are being considered, especially if Wake County loses access to MTB trails on RDU Airport-leased property at Lake Crabtree County Park in Morrisville.
