Chapel Hill runners Colin Thomson (18:55), Cecelia Brisbois (24:09) and Cameron Binnie (24:27) of Carrboro were the top three finishers at the first Wig Out 4 Cancer 5K in Chapel Hill benefitting the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (58 finishers).
Nicolai Tvermoes of Chapel Hill was second 55-59, 1:05:57, and Laura Van Sant of Chapel Hill second 55-59, 1:25:16, at Azalea Sprint Triathlon in Wilmington, first event in NCTS. Age groupers totaled 247 compared to 231 in 2024.
Shrkumar Dongre of Chapel Hill was second 56+, 44:42, at Shivjayanti RunFest in RTP (54 finishers).
Sophie Bendrath of Carrboro was first 20-29, 26:55, at Ambulance Chase 5K in Oxford (120). WT was 22:22.
Jack Crandell of Hillsborough was third 14-19, 20:25, and Cara Crandell first 19&U, 23:31, at Ella’s Race 5K in Raleigh (451). WTs were 15:49 and 19:23.
Thomas Soth (41:32) of Chapel Hill was first 50-59 at Steve Haydu St. Patrick Lo-Tide Run, Carolina Beach (317). WT was 23:12.
Race Notes
Jordan Lake 10/20m trail races Feb. 22 in New Hill were canceled. In WNC, Mount Mitchell Challenge and Black Mountain Marathon also were canceled by winter weather.
Alaila Everett, the high school runner who struck an opponent with her baton during a relay race in Va. high school indoor championships at Liberty Univ., was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and battery in connection with the incident, which was captured on now-viral video.
