Matthew Holtry (21:56) of Chapel Hill was second male at Christmas in July 5K in Winston-Salem (99 finishers). WT was 21:36.

Wayne Eckert (29:24) of Chapel Hill was second 70+ at Wild Bill 5K in Raleigh (323 finishers, down from 386 in 2025). WT was 16:14.

Chapel Hill runners Vitesse Shalev (32:32) and Valerie Murrah (53:40) were third 40-44 and first 75-79 at Great Valdensian 5K (139) in Valdese. WTs were 38:26 and 38:27.

Mebane runners Jacob Harris (34:43) and Martha Hamb­lin (52:17) were first 30-39 and first 70+ at 10th Hobby Trails 5K in Winston-Salem (24). WTs were 24:27 and 25:49.

Race News

New fall local race: Oct. 10, Three Little Pigs Trail 5K, Pittsboro, at Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge, a sanctuary for rescued farm animals.

Fort Bragg closed the main post entrance for multi-year highway improvements. There are seven other access points, so allow extra time to get there for races.

An airport runway 5K in Charlotte Oct. 17 at Charlotte Douglas closed out in 15 minutes (1,650 runners). It’s a flat course with 1.2 inches of elevation.

Hinson Lake 24 HR Ultra Classic Sep. 26 in Rockingham is closed out; Sep.12, Sugg Farm Ultra, Holly Springs canceled; Oct. 24  Inaugural  Apex HM is closed out.

The Sep. 24 Merck 5K in Durham is for employees only, and not open to the public.
