The UNC hockey club went 4-3 in the last month including 1-2 in the ACC Fall Classic in Springfield, Va.
They are 8-1-2 for a second place tie in ACCHL Premier Div. with N.C. State (18 points). Va.Tech 10-1(20) is first, UNCW and Delaware (17) are deadlocked in third. Captain Patrick O’Shaughnessy (16 points, 8 goals, 8 assists) leads UNC in scoring.
Carolina has five games remaining in the fall portion of the schedule, but only two are home in Hillsborough including Army 11/23 at 10:30 p.m.
UNC plays VT three straight times in January including a 1/4 outdoor game in Charlotte at Truist Field, home of Charlotte Knights Triple A baseball, at 7 p.m.
Nic Gingras and Will Smith scored in the OT shootout as UNC edged N.C. State 6-5 in Raleigh. Smith and Zach Mangell had two goals each to lead a 10-1 pasting of Bowling Green. Gingras tallied the tying and winning goals against Louisville, 6-5. New Hampshire downed UNC 4-3 at Fort Liberty to end UNC’s seven-game win streak. Two games with Florida Gulf Coast were canceled.
UNC topped Maryland 5-4 (Smith game-winner), lost 4-3 to Penn State and 4-2 to Rider in the Virginia tournament.
