Spring Leagues Lining Up Teams

Kickball, softball, ultimate frisbee, tennis highlight spring adult leagues in Chapel Hill-Carrboro-Durham.

Durham has a co-rec kickball league (16 teams), with signup under way at dprplaymore.org/439/Kickball. Games are Thursday and some Tuesdays starting March 5 at Hern­don Park. Cost is $28/player for Durham residents 17+, others $43.

Durham offers co-rec (Mon/Wed at Valley Springs, So. Boundaries) and men’s softball (Tue/Thu at Piney Wood). Practice starts 3/16, games 3/23. Signup is by teams ($475) Jan. 12-Feb. 26. Non-city players pay an additional  $12 fee. Free agents can get their names on an interest list.

Carrboro has co-rec softball (Tue/Thu)  and ultimate leagues (Mon/Wed) at Anderson Park. Ultimate costs $42/player and co-rec teams are formed after registration. Softball registration is by team ($500-$600 depending on number of entries, $100 deposit required). Signup ends March 13 and games start late March. Register online or in-person. The Rec Dept. office is now in the new Drakeford building downtown.

USTA tennis leagues for Chapel Hill/Durham players are now run by Eno Community Tennis Association rather than Durham Parks & Rec. They have five this spring for 18+, 40+, 55+, but the signup deadline is Jan. 14 for teams. Matches begin in February. Check enoctta.tennis.

Chapel Hill begins signup in March for spring co-rec volleyball and bocce leagues that start in April. VB costs $125/team with matches at Community Center, Rashkis or Hargraves. Bocce ($125) plays on the court outside the Community Center.

Winter Hockey Leagues

The Orange County Sportsplex, Hillsborough (Triangle Hockey League) has four separate adult hockey leagues. Three are divided by skill level and an Over 40 division. Teams play once a week.  Winter season is under way. Check the website for registration info. It’s expensive.

They also offer learn to skate programs for kids and adults, as well as public skating sessions.
