Urban archery isn’t doing much to impact the N.C. deer population.
Statewide this year the number of deer taken dropped to 160 from 179 last year, according to WRC data. In Chapel Hill, the number went from 5 last year to 1 doe in 2024.
Concord (15), Shelby (13), Elkin, Waxhaw (11), Randleman (10) had the highest numbers. The season ran from Jan. 13 to Feb. 18 for bow hunting (archery) only.
