UNC’s Naval Armory was included on the National Reg­ister of Historic Places, which should save it from demolition. The register is the official list of buildings deemed worthy of preservation because of their historical significance. The Naval Armory on South Columbia St. joins Old East, Playmakers Theater and the Carolina Inn as campus buildings in the register. UNC had plans to tear down the armory to make way for a new science building.

May 14 is the runoff or second election for Republican Lt. Gov, NC Auditor and Orange County School Board (1 seat). Polls open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Early voting ends May 11, 8-3, only at Orange Works, Hillsborough.

Orange County voters will act on a $300M school bond measure for school repairs Nov. 5. Spending is divided: 60.1 percent for Chapel Hill schools, 39.9 for Orange County.

Kaden Honeycutt was the winner of the Orange Krush 200 lap late model race at Orange County Speedway, Rouge­mont. Deac McCaskill was second and Bobby McCarty third. The race raised $115,000 for the Wade Burton Wildlife Fund.

Chapel Hill Police charged a 21-year-old man with assaults last month on the greenway in Meadowmont. The CHPD stepped up patrols after two women reported that a man had inappropriately touched them, then learned about a third case.

Raleigh Firebirds, a pro basketball men’s  team in The Bas­ketball League (52 teams) play home games April 26 (Jack­sonville 95ers) at 7 and the next day (Coastal Georgia) at 4 p.m. at World of God Christian Academy, Raleigh. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Carolina Hurricanes have first round home NHL Stanley Cup playoff games April 21 and 23 at PNC Arena, Raleigh. Details TBA.
