Despite the overpopulation of deer in southern Orange, the number of deer taken by bow hunters during urban archery season dropped from 16 in 2022 to five (3 does, 2 antlered bucks) in Chapel Hill in 2023, NCWRC reported.
Statewide total was 179 this year, compared to 244 in 2022.
Dates for 2024 season are Jan. 13-Feb. 18.
