Visitor Centers (Two) At Jordan

Jordan Lake has two visitor centers, one in the middle and one at the southern end of lake at the dam.

Jordan Lake Visitor Center, run by State Parks, is near the middle of the lake off US 64, Apex. It’s the place to go  for last-minute reservations for camping or picnic shelter, has educational features on the history of the lake and bald eagles, exhibit hall, classrooms and brochures on lake facilities and programs.  Doc Ellen’s

It’s both the office and visitor center and is open 8-5 daily. Phone number is 919-362-0586.

The Army Corps of Engineers operates a Visitor Assistance Center at the southern end of the lake near Highway 1, exit 79, just off Moncure-Pittsboro Road. Hours are 8-4:30 weekdays and weekends (April 1-Sep. 30) when ranger is on site, but may be called away by emergencies. Phone number is 919-542-4501.

Inside are photos and exhibits on lake natural resources, history and information bro­chures on Jordan facilities, water and boating safety. Outside are hiking trails, an overlook for picture-taking, picnic area and nearby Poe’s Ridge 24/7handicap aluminum floating dock boat ramp, parking area (fees charged on honor system), bank fishing, comfort station.
